About Me

I am an oil and pastel painter lucky enough to live on the beautiful southern shore of Massachusetts, where lovely beach and ocean scenes abound. It is a never ending source of landscape inspiration.

My primary love, however, is portraiture. When I was sixteen, I received a small eight color oil paint set for my birthday. The first thing I painted was a portrait of my little brother. I was amazed to achieve a likeness and I was hooked. After attending college in the seventies, when traditional academic drawing and painting methods were not widely taught, I sought out educational institutions and portraiture masters, taking classes and workshops to further my proficiency. Chief among these pursuits was participating in numerous summer workshops with master painter, the late Daniel Greene. I also spent two enriching years at the Academy of Realist Art in Boston, where the classical approach to figure drawing and painting is taught, and techniques of the old masters dissected.

The task of studying and portraying the likeness of a fellow human being is a challenge and an honor. The challenge, beyond the technical aspects of painting, is to capture the small subtleties of a person that contribute to their unique “personhood”. I am delighted to be invited to make these observations and present them as beautifully as I can.
